This project is a major part of my Graphic Design degree. Due to Covid-19's origin in China, Western media has often portrayed China negatively, leading to discrimination against Chinese people.
As a Chinese person living in a Western country, I want to use my designs to improve relationships between Western citizens and Chinese people, showing that discrimination based on media portrayals is unfair.
China has 56 ethnic groups, with 92% of the population being Han, making the other 55 groups minorities. In this project, I will focus on the festivals of three significant ethnic minorities, highlighting their clothing, customs, food, and musical instruments to create a visual language.
The festivals that I want to focus on are:
1.彝族的火把节 – the Torch Festival from Yi Nation
2.傣族的泼水节 – the Water-Sprinkling Festival from Dai Nation
3.壮族三月三民谣节 – the Third of March Folk Festival from the Zhuang Nation
This is the full design outcome of this project. Which includes Billboard Poster Designs, Banner designs, Booklet Designs and postage Stamp Designs. I have learned so much from this project and I have expanded my vision of the design industry and creativity. It was truly a meaningful and inspirational journey.
